Syracuse University students used $10,000 in Uber coupon codes sponsored by the Student Association inside seven hours of the codes’ launch final Friday.
SA partnered with the experience-hailing firm in a pilot program to offer $10 coupon codes to 1,000 students.
Angie Pati, SA’s vice chairman, stated the code was activated at 5 p.m. final Friday and students claimed all out there coupon codes by midnight.
Students might put the code into their Uber app and use the credit score later, she added.
SA President James Franco stated he spoke to an Uber consultant Thursday afternoon about final weekend’s partnership. He stated Uber couldn’t launch particular knowledge to SA until they have been in a proper partnership.

“A lot of times we want students to not stay in the bubble of Syracuse, but go past the boundaries of what’s on the Hill,” Pati stated. “So that was really nice that students were able to utilize (Uber) to go to things like the state fair or to do service projects in the community of Syracuse or downtown.”
Franco stated he thought the initiative was profitable.
Franco and Pati have stated they need to make security a precedence throughout their time period as SA president and vice chairman.
“We really just wanted students to utilize (Uber) to get home safely because … we really care about the safety of Syracuse students,” Pati stated. “If they have a great reliable service like Uber to take them right to their doorstep, that’s really awesome.”
Another potential undertaking is the creation of a shuttle system between Main Campus and japanese off-campus housing, Franco stated. The shuttle would run throughout hours when students need to journey between Main Campus and the Euclid space.
Alexandra Dimitri, SA public relations chair, labored to distribute Uber coupon codes through the challenge’s finish levels. She stated she thought the pilot was a hit.
“Moving forward, we’re definitely looking forward to partner with Uber again,” Dimitri stated.
